CANLEY AND TILE HILL
THE NEW PRE-FABS IN CANLEY 1948
CHARTER AVENUE GOING UP THE LEFT HAND SIDE
Canley is a suburban neighbourhood located in southwest Coventry, England. Canley became part of Coventry as a result of successive encroachment of the latter's boundaries between 1928 and 1932, having historically been part of the Stoneleigh parish.

The area is home to a large number of students attending the nearby University of Warwick.

There was a level crossing adjacent to Canley railway station until 2003, when the road was closed and a foot bridge was built over the railway.

The suburb is bisected by the A45 dual-carriageway, with a major state housing development lying to the south (South Canley) and an area of private housing situated north of this road towards the rail station (North Canley

History
Canley is known as the site of the main factory of the Standard Motor Company and subsequently the Triumph Motor Company until the works was closed in 1980. A commemorative sculpture of the Standard-Triumph badge now stands on the site of the works.

Sir Henry Parkes (1815 - 1896) was born in Canley, where there is a road named after him. Canley Fire Station is on Sir Henry Parks Road near to the A45. A school that was named after him in Canley has been demolished.

Tile Hill is seated in the ancient Forest of Arden, and some remnants of the forest remain between the built up areas. Tile Hill Lane is flanked by Plants Hill Wood to the south and Pig Wood to the north.

Tile Hill has three neighbourhoods. Tile Hill Lane approximately divides the suburb into a northern and a southern section. Tile Hill North, primarily consisting of postwar state housing, extends to Broad Lane in the north, beyond Banner Lane to the west, and to Tile Hill Lane in the south; while the mainly private residences of Tile Hill South extends to Tile Hill Lane in the north, the rail line in the south and the [A45] in the east.

The third area is the more prosperous Tile Hill Village, which provides the main gateway into Coventry and out towards Burton Green and Solihull Borough, at the city's western extremity. The Tanyard Farm housing development from the early-1980s is essentially an extension of Tile Hill Village to the north.
